Emile Cheysson as engineer for Civil Department of Bridges and Highways


He carries out the first French steel bridge built on the "Champs de Mars" in Paris during World’s Fair of 1867.

This bridge has been disassembled and rebuilt across the Vilaine river in Port de Roche he near Langon (Ille et Vilaine) in 1868.

The letters "N" and "E" on each pile stand for Napoléon III and Eugénie.

Nowadays; this bridge is still considered as one of most beautiful work across the Vilaine river.
